T.W. Bell Was Oldest Member of County Bar
Veteran Attorney Dies At His Home Here--Admitted to Practice in 1886
T.W. Bell, oldest member of the Leavenworth County Bar died at 4:45 o'clock yesterday afternoon at his home at 744 Kickapoo Street at the age of 91.
Mr. Bell returned Saturday from Des Moines,Ia., where he had been staying at the home of a brother, Hayes Bell, for the past year.
He was born at Cornett, Miss., April 1, 1857, of slave parents. After attending high school at Adel, Ia, he began the study of law at Drake University then located at Oskaloosa, Ia.
Retired Few Years Ago
On completion of his studies at the university, he entered the office of Bolton and McCoy in Oskaloosa and began reading law.
He was admitted to the Leavenworth County Bar Dec 7, 1886 and continued his practice of law here until his retirement a few years ago.
He is survived by two other brothers, A. L. Bell, Sheridan Wyo., and Theodore Bell, Des Moines and three sisters Mrs Jesse Bell David, Des Moines, Ial, Mrs. Genevieve Ashborn, Garner, Ia., and Mrs. Gertrude Harris, Moline Ill.
The body was removed to Holmes and Son Funeral Home. Details of the funeral arrangements have not been announced.
