Fond du Lac Commonwealth Reporter, Sat. June 20, 1942, p. 14:1. LONG SICKNESS OF OLD RESIDENT ENDS IN DEATH. Christian Kierig Expires At Family Home in City At Age Of 83. Christian Kierig, 83, long a resident of Fond du Lac and its vicinity, died at 5:15 a.m. today at his home, 419 East Second street, after an extended illness. Born June 29, 1858 in Germany, Mr. Kierig, a retired butcher and sausage maker, came to this country when 24 years old, settling in Theresa and later moving to Campbellsport. He had lived in Fond du Lac the last 35 years. Mr. Kierig was a member of the Catholic Knights of Wisconsin. Surviving are five daughters, Mrs. Gertrude (Joseph) Menge, Mrs. Emma (Elmer) Schneider, Mrs. Rose (Stanley) Jaworski and Mrs. Clara (James) Duffy of this city and Helen at home; a son, Nicholas of Schiller Park IL; 20 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. Funeral services for Mr. Kierig will be held at 8:30 a.m. Monday from the residence and at 9 a.m. at St. Mary’s church. Burial will be in Calvary cemetery.

Funeral services for Christian Kierig, who died Saturday at his home, 419 East Second street, were held at 8:30 a.m. today from the residence and at 9 a.m. from St. Mary’s church. The Very Rev. Peter W. Gersbach officiated. Burial was in Calvary cemetery. Pallbearers were Frank Stroehmer and Edward Malady of the Fond du Lac Butchers association and Bernard Hoey, Henry Schmidt, James Diedrich and Clemens Horn of Butchers Local 300. Mr. Kierig was a retired butcher. The services were largely attended, there being many from surrounding places present. Persons from a distance attending included Mr. and Mrs. Nick Kierig and Mr. and Mrs. Howard Doyle of Schiller Park IL, Mrs. Russell Kierig and Mr. and Mrs. James Kilroy of Chicago and Mr. and Mrs. William Kierig of Franklin Park IL.
