Opal L. Hoyt, Topeka, Kansas, and formerly of Emporia, died at her home on Saturday, March 7, 2015 at the age of 86. Opal L. McCoy, the daughter of Johner Nathaniel and Edith (Bohard) McCoy, was born on July 8, 1928 near Hamilton, Kansas. She and Harold E. Hoyt were married at Hartford, Kansas on August 11, 1946. He passed away on April 1, 1991. Surviving family members include: her son, Edward E. (Kay) Hoyt, Burlington, Kansas; daughters, Mary E Hoyt and Gayla E. Hoyt of the home; sisters, Dorothy Guzman, Tujunga, California, Frances Smith, Towanda, Kansas, and Alice Lamb, Emporia; seven grandchildren, Ed (Emily Berns) Hoyt, Jr, Craig Hoyt, Neoma Hoyt, Amanda (Kyle) Tindell, Matt Hoyt, Julie (Marcus) Higdon, and Eric Hoyt; fifteen great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; twin infant grandchildren, Alan and Gena Hoyt; and siblings, Gladys Aikman, Raymond McCoy, Winnie Johnson, and Daniel McCoy. Mrs. Hoyt was a home day care provider for 37 years, licensing in 1961. She was a member of the former Emporia Home Day Care Association, Topeka Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, and the First Christian Church, Emporia. Funeral services will be at Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home, Emporia, on Friday, March 13, 2015 at 2:00 P.M. Interment will follow at Phillips Cemetery, west of Reading, Kansas. The family will receive friends at the funeral home, Thursday evening, March 12, 2015 from 7:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. Memorial contributions may be made to the Center for Basic Cancer Research at Kansas State University, and sent in care of the funeral home.
