He was born James Harry Bowen to Alfred Jackson Bowen, SR, and Ann Elizabeth "Annie Eliza" Williams. All his life he was called "Jim H" by his family and contemporaries. He was the fifth child and third son of thirteen children born to his parents. All grew to maternity except John J. "Johnnie" Bowen who died at the age of 2 years, 11 months, 1 day. He married Jean Catherine Lanier, b. 09 Mar 1899, d. 05 Mar 1983 (FAG# 97803313). They had two children together.
They later divorced. The two children were:

1. James Harry Bowen, Jr., born 1928, died 1992.
2. Theodore Jackson Bowen, born April 20, 1922, died January 09, 2012.

Jun 1968, Jacksonville, Duval Co., FL (Burial: South Thompson Baptist Church Cemetery, Toombs County, Georgia). Many years after divorcing her 1st husband she married (2nd) CHARLES J. SCHENCK (1894-1981), who was also divorced. She had no children. Alice Nita Bowen is buried in Hillcrest Abbey East, Savannah, Chatham County, Georgia beside her 2nd, and last, husband Charles J. Schenck.
