Eldon B. Rigsby, a long-time resident of Ozark, AL, died on Wednesday, February 25, 2015, after an extended illness.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00pm Sunday, March 1, 2015, in the chapel of Fuqua-Bankston Funeral Home in Ozark, AL with Brother Charles Goldsmith officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in Woodlawn Memory Gardens with Fuqua-Bankston Funeral Home directing. The family will receive visitors from 1:00pm until service time on Sunday. Flowers are being accepted or memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society .
Mr. Rigsby was born January 14, 1932, in Hot Springs, Arkansas and lived in many places while serving in the US Army. He served a combat tour in Korea and three combat tours in Vietnam receiving numerous awards, including the Combat Infantry Badge, Air Medal, Purple Heart, and three Bronze Stars. He achieved the rank of 1SG, and retired in 1978 after 24 years of service. After retiring from the army, he taught ROTC at Dothan and Northview High Schools. Many students have kept in touch throughout the years.
Eldon was preceded in death by his loving wife of 52 years, Eileen, and a daughter Kathy.
Survivors include four children: Kenneth Rigsby of Dothan, AL, Paula Carroll of Ozark, AL, Lori Johnson (Bruce) of Midland City, AL, and Scott Rigsby (Elisabeth) of Navarre, FL; six grandchildren: Brad Carroll, Dustin Carroll, Matthew Johnson, Amanda Rigsby Haskin, Amy Rigsby, and Brian Rigsby, and four great grandchildren: Kaylee Carroll, Colton Carroll, Carter Langford, and Bethany Haskin.
The family would like to thank Belinda Thomas and Bernita Miller for their loving care of Mr. Rigsby.
