F. W. BASS DIED TODAY AFTER SHORT ILLNESS
WAS 75 YEARS OLD, YOUNGEST OF HIS IMMEDIATE FAMILY; WAS BAPTIST
Francis Wayland Bass, 75, died at his hoe in Stennett this morning at 3 o'clock after 5 weeks illness. Heart trouble was the direct cause of his death. Mr. Bass was the youngest of his immediate family.
Funeral arrangements have not been made pending the arrival of relatives. He was a member of the Baptist Church since his early boyhood.
Francis Wayland Bass was born near Princeton, Illinois, December 20, 1857, a son of George and Mary Cary Bass. He grew to manhood in Illinois and came west to locate in Pottawattamie County, Iowa, in 1881. In 1883 he returned to his native state and was married thereto Emma Lippincott, in 1883. Shortly after their marriage they moved back to Pottawattamie County where Mrs. Bass died in 1890.
In 1898 Mr. Bass moved to Montgomery County after his second marriage to Cora E. Kearney in Mills County in 1895. They have lived in this county since coming here, except 14 months spent in Seattle, Washington in 1909 and 1910.
Mr. Bass is survived by his widow and five children, 11 grandchildren, and one brother. His children are: Mrs. Florence Stewart, Seattle, Washington; Ralph Bass, Fredericksburg, Virginia, Ruth Bass, Kent, Ohio, Mark Bass, Stennett, Iowa, and Cary Bass at home. One daughter, Francis Bass, died at the age of 3 years. The surviving brother is Judd Bass of Omaha, Nebraska.
