Stanley "Jake" Shields was a lifelong Wardville, OK resident. He was born on Thursday, December 02, 1948, to Steve Shields and Francis Marie (Nichols) Shields at McAlester, OK. He attended grade school at Harpers Valley and graduated Kiowa High School in 1966. Jake worked for Manhattan Construction Company in Norman, OK in the construction of Walker Towers on the campus of the University of Oklahoma after he graduated. He also worked for a period of time at the Naval Ammunition Depot in Savannah, OK and the Oklahoma State Prison in McAlester, OK. Thereafter he began working for Allied Telephone Company in Kiowa, OK, where he worked for 25 years until his retirement. He was also a rancher. Jake served his country in the National Guard during the years of 1968 to 1974. He married Shirley (Kirkland) on December 14, 1984 at Sherman, TX. He was a lifelong member of Harpers Valley Baptist Church. He loved to hunt, fish and work with his cattle. Jake passed away on Saturday, January 31, 2015 at Tulsa, OK. He is preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Teresa Lynn Shields; and a brother, Donald B. Shields. Services will be at the Kiowa School Auditorium in Kiowa, OK at 3 p.m. Friday, Feb. 6, 2015. Interment will be at Harpers Valley Cemetery.
