Son of John Thompson (1740 VA-1783 GA) & Tabitha (maiden name unknown, 1749 VA-1828 Choctaw Co., AL)

David(no "B") Thompson was born abt 1769 @ Anson Co., NC. Nov 8th 1773, his parents with 4 oldest children David, Reuben, Ann, Catherine moved from NC to what would later (1777) become "Wilkes Co., GA" (this move is verified in "GA Colonial Land Grants" on file @ Wilkes Co., GA). His parents John & Tabitha (maiden name not verified) Thompson & family first lived near "Wrightsboro" now part of McDuffie Co., GA. During the war his father first received 287-1/2 acres of land along the north fork of Kettle Creek. In Feb 1783, the "Widow & Heirs of John Thompson" were awarded an increase to 300-acres of the original site & an additional 150-acres for their deceased father's war service to GA. The family sold that land in 1805 ("excepting the grave sites") and moved down to Milledgeville, Baldwin Co., GA -new site of the GA State Capitol. David Thompson married Florence "Nancy" Touchstone 1806 @ Baldwin Co., GA where oldest son Joel Phillips Thompson was b. 1807. By early 1810, David & Nancy w/one son, his widowed mother Tabitha and married brother Reuben & Phoebe w/three oldest of 4 children moved from GA to the new "MS Territory" and resided @ Baldwin Co., AL. At the time of the "Fort Mims Massacre" (Aug 31, 1813), David & Nancy (pregnant with son Wade H.) Thompson and young son JP "Jack" Thompson fled north to then still "Washington Co." (became Choctaw Co. Dec. 1847). It was there that he built a home and raised a large family. He died Dec. 1846 and was buried in the "Thompson family cemetery" located on his homestead property. The house and cemetery (still exists in 2017) near the old "Wimberly" community. Many other Thompson family members are buried here as well. Ravages of time and storms have destroyed headstones. The Thompson family cemetery is located on private property owned (2015) by descendants of the Wimberly family.

*See photo of Fort Mims Massacre (Aug 31, 1813) with name of David, Nancy & young JP Thompson originally engraved as "Killed" when they actually did "escape" the night before 500 were killed at the fort.Their names were mistakenly added to the list of those who died as all who would have "known" of their escape died during the massacre!Monument now corrected.

Descendants of David Thompson (1769-1846) have already qualified for "First Families of AL" certification.
