Sadie was born on 25 September 1892 in Briery Branch, Virginia and lived there all her life. She was the daughter of James William Howdyshell and Mary Margaret Howdyshell (nee Simmons). She married Jacob R. Wheeler on 13 November 1909. Sadie worked as a cook along with Jacob for the Bark Camp at Home Quarry, and later at the Keezel farm in Keezeltown. She also worked in the cafeteria of the Briery Branch school for 10 years in the 1940s. Sadie took an active interest in the affairs of the community, including the Ladies aid Society and the Brethren Church. Sadie became ill and was a patient in the Rockingham memorial Hospital in Harrisonburg before passing away at 3:30am on 11 January 1951.
