Newspaper Obituary: Sudden Passing of a Beloved Citizen Brings Great Shock to People of Rogers

After an illness of but a few hours, Mr. L. R. Bryant died at his home in Rogers Sunday morning about 6 o'clock. Mr. Bryant, called Dandy by almost all of his friends, was born in Milam County near Bryant Station in May, 1882, a member of one of the first of the pioneer families in this part of Texas. All of his life he spent in Milam and Bell counties, living in Rogers, Bartlett and Oenaville at different times.
In 1905 he was married to Miss Effie Gregory. To this union were born three children, all of whom were at his bedside when death came; Mrs. Bonlyn Shelton of Crosby, Mrs. Hayden Sypert of Pasadena, and W. B. (Dick) Bryant of Rogers.
Funeral services were conducted at the First Christian church in Rogers at 3 o'clock Monday afternoon by the Rev J. W. Hosapple of Temple assisted by the Rev J. M. Lunsford of Rogers. Interment was in the Rogers cemetery.
Mr. Bryant joined the Christian church in 1917 and had been a devout Christian, active in the church until his death.
Survivors include his widow, three children, and one grandchild, four sisters, and five brothers.
A great gathering of relatives and friends assembled to pay a tribute of affection and esteem to the departed. Many and most lovely were the floral offerings.
The sudden death of Levi Bryant comes as a distinct shock producing a profound sense of personal loss to this writer who had the privilege to be his teacher in the boyhood days of Mr. Bryant. His deportment as a pupil was excellent, his conduct and habits as a citizen have been at all times above reproach. As a husband, father and grandfather he was always loving and kind. The passing of Mr. Bryant is an irreparable loss to his family, his friends and the community.
