Newspaper Obituary: Mr. L. B. Bryant

The people of Rogers were greatly surprised and shocked last Sunday morning when they learned that Mr. L. B. Bryant had died very suddenly the day before at Lubbock where he had just arrived to make his future home. The body accompanied by relatives reached Rogers on the early Sunday morning train where it was received hy waiting relatives and friends.
The funeral service conducted by Elder G. L. Ewing and Rev. G. W. Morgan with Rev. C. R. Joyner leading the song service was held at he Church of Christ at three o'clock Sunday afternoon in the presence of a large concourse of sorrowing relatives and sympathizing friends, after which the mortal remains were laid to rest at the Rogers cemetery. Eloguent and impressive was the discourse delivered by Rev. G. W. Morgan The floral offerings were many and lovely.
L. B. Bryant, son of Joseph Bryant, was born at Bryant Station Jan. 2, 1857 and died January 4, 1924, age 67 years and two days.
He was first married to Miss Palestine Garrison in 1877. To this union thirteen children were born--nine boys and four girls. The wife and three sons have died.
Married a second time to Mrs. Geneva Anderson July 27, 1917 by whom he is survived. He is also survived by his mother, 89 years of age, and a brother, 69 years of age.
The pallbearers were: Active--R. J. Reed, H. C. Crouch, H. L. Ward, J. W. Bigham, W. P. Baug and T. W. Jacob. Honorary--H. L. Skinner, M. V. Baugh, R. E. Guess, L. H. Land, H. J. Hendrick, and W. B. Priddy.
In the death of Mr. Bryant the Rogers section has lost one of its pioneer citizens--his grandfather having been one of the first settlers of Central Texas. The men who helped to carve out the present day civilization are fast passing, and soon we shall know the real pioneer no more, but the gratitude of this and coming generations to these sturdy pioneers should continue to the end of time.
Among those attending the funeral from out of town were Judge Jeff Kemp, Judge T. S. Henderson and J. H. Whaley and family from Cameron.
The News joins the relatives and friends in sympathy to all the bereaved in their great sorrow.
