Werner G. Rulien was born in New Richmond, Wisconsin, to Joseph and Emma (Johnson) Rulien on Feb. 12, 1897. Vanner married Genevieve Mattoon on October 19, 1918 in Eau Claire, Wisconsin. They had a son, Warner, and later divorced. He was a cabinet contractor until he retired. During his lifetime he created several inventions i.e., acoustical tile and a cooling fan for television sets (when they had tubes prior to transistors). He lived with his brothers, Paul and Richard, in Chicago until his death in 1965. His body was cremated and the ashes were scattered over Half Moon Lake in Eau Claire.
