Nelson L. Maddox, 87, 108 Vine St., Chesterfield, died late Monday afternoon at the home of a granddaughter, Mrs. Robert Baker, 331 Pearl St., Chesterfield.

Mr. Maddox was born Jan. 25, 1874, in Bath County and was the son of William and Amanda Kirk Maddox. He had resided in the Anderson community for 48 years. Mr. Maddox retired 20 years ago as an employee of the former Indiana Railroad.

He attended the Chesterfield Christian Church.

Surviving are; the widow, Ella, who he married 61 years ago; four daughters, Mrs. Essie McCord, Alexandria; Mrs. Datus Boram, Anderson; Mrs. Kenneth Poor, Chesterfield; and Mrs. Hazel Rozelle, RR1, Daleville; a sister, Mrs. Martha Scott, Anderson; a brother, the Rev. Emory Maddox, Dayton, Ohio; eight grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

Friends will be received after 7pm today at the Harold E. Rozelle Funeral Home. Services will be conducted at 10am Thursday at the funeral home with the Rev. Ernest Hamilton, past of the Park Place Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be in the Park View Cemetery at Alexandria.
