OQUAWKA - Don W. Thompson, 58, Oquawka, formerly of Wataga and Rock Island, died at 7:03 a.m. Friday, Oct. 24, 2014, at his home in Oquawka. His life was fulfilled with being a giver.
He was born Feb. 9, 1956, in Galesburg, the son of Arnold and Darlene Briggs Thompson. He married Karen Wright in 1976 in Galesburg.
He leaves behind two daughters, Alisha (Rachel Fye) Fues of Oquawka, and Marsha (Patrick) Yerkey of Keller, Texas; one loving grandson, Damien and two beautiful granddaughters, Alexis and Sarah; three brothers, Junior (Sharon) Thompson of Galesburg, Billy Thompson of Galesburg, Eugene (Florence) Briggs of Maquon; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, and one sister. He will be sadly missed but always loved.
He owned and operated the Stop In Bar and Grill in Rock Island, cooked at the Ribco Bar and Grill in Rock Island, and then finally worked at the Isle of Capri in Rock Island, for many years.
He loved long walks, cooking, being outdoors, watching humming birds, riding on the golf cart, gambling and spending time with his family.
Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 28, 2014, at Hurd-Hendricks Funeral Homes in Knoxville. Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, Oct. 27, 2014, at Hurd-Hendricks Funeral Homes in Knoxville. Interment will take place at the Wataga Cemetery, Wataga. Fellowship will be at Hurd-Hendricks Fellowship Center following the services at the cemetery.
