James Herbert Truslow "Herb", 89, of Nellysford, passed away on Sunday, February 4, 2018. Born in Nelson County, on June 8, 1928, he was a son of the late William and Melinda Puckett Truslow.
Herb was a United States Navy Veteran who proudly served his country. He was a retired engineer for the telephone company in Charlottesville where he worked for many years. Herb was also a member of Hebron Baptist Church, and had done missionary work in Russia and Scotland. He had a passion for music and let his love and talent shine through the guitar, banjo and autoharp. He enjoyed fishing and hunting, especially squirrel hunting, and was an avid gardener. Herb will be most remembered as a loving and devoted husband, uncle, and brother.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 64 years, Hattie Mae Truslow "Polly"; his brother, Buddy Truslow (Gracie) of Waynesboro; a sister, Annie Patrick of Lexington; nephews, Gary Small (Marilyn), Irvine Carter (Pat), and Wayne Carter (Skip); and a niece, Yvette Sholes.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant son, and sisters, Mary Davis, Yvonne Toms and Alice Carter.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to friends and family for all their love, care, and support shown to their loved one. A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, February 8, 2018, at Byrum-Parr Funeral Home by Pastor Jake Stewart and Pastor Billy Coffey, with burial to follow in Wintergreen Christian Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
