Dorothy Van Veldhuizen, 79, of Sanborn died Friday, Nov. 17, 2000, at Northwest Iowa Health Center in Sheldon.
Services were held on Monday, Nov. 20 at 10:30 a.m. at First Reformed Church in Sanborn. Burial was at Roseland Cemetery, Sanborn, under the direction of the Sanborn Funeral Home.
Elbertha Dorothy (Aalbers) Van Veldhuizen was born July 7, 1921, in Orange City, the daughter of Arend and Helena (Smitz) Aalbers. She was educated in Orange City.
She married Gradus Van Veldhuizen on Feb. 19, 1941.
Following their marriage, they resided in Sioux Falls, S.D., Alton, and had made their home in Sanborn since 1948. Dorothy was a homemaker.
Mrs. Van Veldhuizen was a member of First Reformed Church of Sanborn where she had taught Sunday School. She belonged to American Legion Auxiliary and Prairie View Auxiliary. She enjoyed flowers, gardening, crafts, reading and sewing.
Survivors include her children, John and his wife Glenda Van Veldhuizen and Bonita and her husband Gene Kenagy, all of Sioux City, Harold and his wife Gladys Van Veldhuizen and Gladys and her husband Rod Kroeze, all of Sheldon, Larry and his wife Lori Van Veldhuizen and Dennis and his wife Sallee Van Veldhuizen, all of Sanborn; 12 grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren; four great-grandchildren; three great-stepgrandchildren; a brother-in-law, Pete Van Oort of Sanborn; and a sister-in-law, Betty Van Veldhuizen of Sanborn.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and two sisters.
