"Philip V. Kiley, former village president and trustee and a highly esteemed resident of Cooperstown, died at noon Tuesday at his home, No. 38 Elm street, after an illness of four weeks with heart disease. Mr. Kiley was one of nine children of Patrick and Adelia (Connelly) Kiley and was born in the town of Middlefield January 27, 1862. In his youth he moved with his parents to Hartwick, where he resided until his marriage on May 18, 1887, to Miss Margaret O'Neill of Cooperstown, They established their home in Middlefield and he became a very successful farmer. Later he moved to Pierstown, Otsego township, where he continued his farming until he sold his property in March, 1917, and retired. He then moved to Cooperstown. Mr. Kiley was a staunch Democrat and had held many political offices. During his residence in Middlefield he was elected superintendent of highways for one term and also held the same office for two terms in Otsego ... He is survived by five children, Miss Adelia Kiley, supervising state nurse of the Utica district; Miss Catherine E. Kiley, Cooperstown; Mrs. Charles La Shomb, Sandy Creek; two sons, Leo L. Kiley, Newark, N. J.; James B., Cooperstown; two sisters, Miss Katherine and Miss Fannie Kiley, both of Cooperstown, and one brother, John Kiley, Fort Plain. The funeral will be held Friday at 10 a. m., from the Church of Our Lady of the Lake, the Rev. Patrick A. Crowe officiating. Interment will be in St. Mary's cemetery."
