John L. was the son of John M. and Jane Ann Rogers Griffith. His siblings were William L., Meredith, Lucy, Albert, Josephine, Clinton, Zilpha Jane, Susannah and Mary.

Family lore always said that John was in the War Between the States, came home, and was killed by ambush by his uncle over a debt owed to John's mother, Jane Ann.

No service record has been found for John, but many North Georgia men were not on record, especially those recruited by Governor Brown.

There is no family lore or record for when John died or is interred, but since they lived closest to Woody/Dial and records do say his parents are buried there, as is a sister, Susannah, we place his memorial here until proof otherwise.

His death was between the end of the War and 1870, for he is not in that census. Since Findagrave does not allow for ca. or abt. we simply put a 'guesstimate.'

The picture does not have a positive identification, but from all that is known about him, this appears to be John.
