MILLEDGEVILLE WOMAN DIES OF GUNSHOT: Mrs. Patricia Griffin Walden, 25, of 541 N. Wayne St., Milledgeville, was shot to death late Saturday night in the women's rest room of the Army-Navy Club at 379 Cherry St.
Detectives believe the wound was self-inflicted, but are continuing their investigation pending reports from the state crime lab in Atlanta, according to Det. C.E. Cannon.
Det. Cannon said Mrs. Walden died of a 22 cal. bullet wound in the stomach. Although alive when she arrived at the Medical Center, Mrs. Walden died a short time later.
Det. Cannon said the young woman was found about 11 p.m. Police were notified of the shooting by the owner of the club, Det. Cannon said, and have been unable to determine who first found the woman or if there were witnesses to the shooting.
The apparent suicide weapon was recovered by officers from members of the group Mrs Walden had been with at the club, Det. Cannon said. He said Mrs. Walden, her husband and several other men from Milledgeville had driven to the club. Detectives detained two persons from the club as material witnesses but later released them.
Funeral services for Mrs. Patricia Griffin Walden will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the chapel of Williams Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Friendship Baptist Church Cemetery.
She was a lifelong resident of Baldwin County. She was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Adolph Griffin of Milledgeville.
She was a member of the Baptist demonination.
Survivors other than her parents, include her husband, Horace Walden of Milledgeville; two daughters, Miss Melinda Walden and Miss Helen Walden, both of Milledgeville; a son, Horace Walden, Jr.; four sisters, Mrs. Lorell Fionda of Glendale, Arizona, Mrs. Louise Martin of Columbus, Mrs. JoAnn Johnson and Miss Eloise Griffin, both of Milledgeville; two brothers, Adolph Griffin, Jr. and Robert Griffin, both of Milledgeville.
