George was a son of James Franklin and Anna Belle (Hoover) Gunsallus. He married first Bessie Snyder in 1913 and they had two children: Robert and William. He married second Elva Tucker Lescher and they had three children: James, Thelma and Jane.
George served in the U.S. Army during World War I from 18 Jan 1915 to 7 Sep 1917.

"GEORGE W GUNSALLUS George W. Gunsallus was 'born Feb. 22, 1890 at Bald Eagle, the son of Frank and Annabelle Ammennan Gunsallus. He was twice married, first to Bessie Snyder and later to Elva Tucker. Surviving are two sons and two daughters: William F. Gunsallus, Washington, D. C.; James Gunsallus. Tyrone: Mrs. Thelma Fowler, Bellwood; Mrs. Jane Cowher, Tyrone; four brothers: Harry Gunsallus, Watsontown. N. Y; Toner L. Gunsallus. Mifflinburg; Frank Gunsallus, Altoona: John Gunsallus, Tlpton; also eight grandchlldren. He was a veteran of World War I, and a member of the Howard Gardner Post, American Legion He had been employed by the Interstate Amieslta Company, Tyrone Forge. Funeral services will he held Wednesday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock in the First Evangelical United Brethern Church in charge of the Rev. Budd R. Smith. Burial will he in the Bald Eagle Cemetery." Bald Eagle Cemetery no longer exists because in the 1930-40s the cemetery was destroyed when a rock crusher was established at the site. Most of the graves were moved by relatives to other cemeteries and the tombstones destroyed.
