Mary Clare (Terfehr) Voll-mecke was born July 1, 1912 in Kent, Minn., the daughter of John and Rose (Nordick) Terfehr.

After completing her schooling, she worked in Northeastern Iowa where she met Leo Vollmecke. They were married on Sept. 15, 1941 at St. Thomas Catholic Church in Kent, Minn.

Leo and Mary Vollmecke farmed near Festina for 36 years and attended Our Lady of Seven Dolors Catholic Church.

In 1978, they sold the farm and moved into Fort Atkinson, where Mary Vollmecke lived until she entered the Ossian Senior Hospice in Ossian in July 1996. She was a member of St. John's Catholic Church in Fort Atkinson. She enjoyed dancing in her younger years, playing cards, embroidering, sewing, gardening and cooking.
Mary Vollmecke was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Leo in 1988; her son Mat-thias in 2002; two grandsons; four sisters: Florence in infancy; Ada Althoff; Sister Mary Rita Terfehr, OSF and Sister Helen Terfehr OSF and one brother, Rev. Julius Terfehr, OSB.
