Gene Dolson served as a sonarman with the U.S. Navy in the Pacific Theatre during WW II. He received the B.S. and M.S. degrees in Industrial Arts from Indiana State University, and the Ph.D. in Mathematics from the University of Illinois. He had taught in the public schools in Indiana and Illinois for 20 years and at Eastern Illinois University for 24 years. He was a member of the National Council of teachers of Mathematics, and an honorary life member of the Illinois Council of Teachers of Mathematics. He belonged to Epsilon Pi Tau (honorary Industrial Arts fraternity) and Kappa Mu Epsilon (honorary Mathematics fraternity) and West Union American Legion Post No. 1130.
