Hawley Rex Phelps, 64, died suddenly Friday, Nov. 21 of a heart attack while in Soda Springs. Services were held Tuesday, Nov. 25 at 2 p.m. in the LDS Second Ward in Montpelier, with Bishop Gene H. Passey conducting. Interment followed in the Montpelier Cemetery.

The dedication prayer was offered by David Gerber and pallbearers were Joel Phelps, Michael Phelps, Carey Phelps, Val Cahoon, Martin Cahoon and Lonnie Cahoon.

Flower arrangements were by the Second Ward Relief Society and the services were under the direction of Matthews Mortuary.

Family prayer was by Val Cahoon, the opening prayer was by Stephen Portela and benediction was by Lynn Gerber.

Max Haddock sang, "Little Grey Home in The West," and "These Hands." The Moonlighters sang "Sweet Kentucky Rose," and "Are You Lonesome Tonight," and prelude and postlude music was furnished by Ranee Bird.

The life sketch was presented by Lonnie Cahoon and Bishop Gene H. Passey presented the remarks.

Phelps was born August 6, 1911 in Montpelier to Ezra Joseph and Jane Roberts Phelps. He married Myrle Poole August 15, 1931 in Menan, Ida. She preceded him in death in March, 1970. Their marriage had been solemnized in the Logan LDS Temple in November, 1944.

He married Myra Linder November 22, 1972 in Montpelier.

Survivors include his wife, Myra; five children, Mrs. Roland (Alice) Cahoon, Kaysville, Utah, Mrs. Arlene Kiger, Corvallis, Ore., SCPO Don Phelps, stationed with the Navy in London, England, Miss Karen Phelps, Pocatello, and Lannie Phelps, Sacramento, Calif.

Other survivors include two brothers, Reed Phelps, Nevada, and Hugh Phelps, Lavrel, Mont.; 18 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
