John Allison, Constable At Chester, Dies At 62
John T. Allison of Neptune Ave., Chester, Grant District constable for 15 years, died Thursday at 8 p.m. at the Fox Nursing Home at Chester after an illness of 6 months. He was 62 and entered the home Tuesday. He was born in Hookstown, Oct 28, 1897, and served as constable since about 1945 until his illness. He also was a potter for a number of years. For the last three years, he and his son, George Allison, operated the Allison Grocery on Phoenix Ave. He was a member of St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church in East Liverpool, Odd Fellows Lodge and Masonic Lodge 142, both of Chester, Weirton Commandery 30, Knights Templar, Osiris Temple Shrine of Wheeling, the Pughtown Grange and the Tri-State Saddle Club of East Liverpool. He was an honorary member of the Chester volunteer fire department. He leaves his widow, Mrs. Hilda Goppert Allison at home: another son, Walter A. Allison of Georgetown; two daughters, Mrs. Alma Caughey of San Jose, Calif., and Mrs. Kathleen Barker of Calcutta; three brothers, Frank Allison and Hugh Allison, both of Chester, and Harry Allison of Wellsville; four sisters, Mrs. Etta Brooks, Mrs. Ola Weaver and Mrs. Beulah Barmer, all of Chester, and Mrs. Mildred White, of Newell, and 12 grandchildren. Services will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. at the home of his son, George Allison, 937 Phoenix Ave., by the Rev. Charles Kampmeyer. Burial will be in the Mill Creek Hill Cemetery near Hookstown. Friends may call at the residence Saturday. The Welch Funeral Home at Hookstown is in charge of arrangements.

Chester - John Thomas Allison, 63, Grant district Constable and former Chester councilman, 904 Neptune avenue, died Thursday at 8 p.m. in the Fox Nursing home following a six months illness. Allison was the constable in the Grant district at the present time, serving in that capacity for many years. He was widely known in Hancock political circles, and a familiar figure in the courthouse. He was born October 26, 1897, in Hookstown, Pa. Allison was a member of the Chester City Council for 15 years, and for the past three years, had operated a grocery store with his son in Chester. His church affiliation was with the St. Johns Lutheran church in East Liverpool, and he had membership in the Independent Order of Odd Fellows, Masonic lodge, 142; the Hancock Chapter No. 14 Arch Masons; Weirton Commandery, Knights of Templar, No. 30, and Osiris Temple of Wheeling. Allison was an honorary member of the Chester Fire department; Pughtown Grange, 144, and the Tri - State Saddle club. His survivors include his widow, Hilda Goppert, two sons, George Allison of Chester and Walter Allison of Georgetown; two daughters, Mrs. Alma Caughey of San Yose, Calif; and Mrs. Kathleen Barker, of Calcutta, Ohio., 12 grandchildren and three brothers, Frank Allison of Chester; Harry Allison, of Wellsville, and Hugh Allison of Chester; four sisters, Mrs. Etta Brooks, Mrs. Ola Weaver, and Mrs. Beulah Barmer, all of Chester, and Mrs. Mildred White, of Newell.
