Born in Scammon, Kansas, Nadine was the youngest of Reuben Duval and Emelie Fourment's seven children. She was working as a hat check girl in a Detroit hotel when she met and married a traveling salesman named Sam Brown. Sam was much older than Nadine and the marriage lasted only a short time. Shortly after her divorce from Sam she married Fred Stokes. Fred was a police officer in Detroit. Dec 21 1931 Nadine shot herself in the heart with Fred's gun. She was 21 years old.
