Bud and his twin sister Emma were born in Scammon Kansas to Reuben Duval and Emelie Fourment. As a boy he worked in the coal mines. He enlisted in the Navy for a short period and later found work in Maine building the Wyman Dam. In 1940 he married his soul mate, Florence Sterling. They settled in Detroit where Bud drove a truck for Ford Motor Company. When Florence died of breast Cancer in 1957, Bud was devastated. He found love again in 1964 when married a delightful Scottish woman, Jessie Walters. Jessie died in 1972.

Bud enjoyed hunting, fishing, making ceramics and a good game of nickel ante poker.
