Died on Thursday Morning February 15, 1900 at her home in Rolfe, Iowa, Julia Alice Challand from Heart Failure resulting from a complication of diseases. Julia Alice Greenfield was born in Rome, New York, March 5 1850. Her father being Montolbert Greenfield. When about 12 years of age she removed with her parents to Dekalb County, Illinois and on February 1, 1871 she was married to George Challand at Shabbona Grove, DeKalb County. To them were born eight children, one of whom died in infancy. In 1872 Mr. & Mrs. Challand moved to Webster County, Iowa where they made their home for a timeon a farm near Clare, afterward moving to a farm a short distance east of Rolfe and from to Rolfe. Mrs. Challand had been in poor health for more than ten years, her trouble being an afflection of the lungs and bronchial tubes. Ten days ago she felt well enough so she and Mr. Challand contemplated a drive to Pocahontas, but about a week ago she was taken worse and failed rapdly. Two daughters, Maud & Wealthy (Weltha) Smith, were telegraphed for when it was realized the end was near, and the mother, bouyed up by the hope of seeing them resisted death until 3 o'clock this morning, when she told her watchers she could no longer, and sank to rest. A few hours afterward, on the morning flyer, the daughters arrived from Minneapolis, but too late to bid a last farewell to the departing one. While not an active member of any church since coming to Rolfe, because of poor health. Mrs. Challand was regarded as a truly Christian woman by those who knew her best. She leaves a husband & seven children, the latter being Mrs. Wealthy (Wealtha) Smith of Minneapolis, Terry Challand of Rolfe, Mrs. May Neal of Pocahontas, Clarence & Merton Challand of Rolfe. Funeral services will be held at the Baptist church at 10 o'clock Saturday forenoon.
