Raymond J. Ruffing, Sr.
Willowdale Nursing Home, New Holstein
Age 102, formerly of Rural Hilbert, died on Monday, March 24, 1997 at the nursing home.
He was born on October 11, 1894 in St. Anthony, Wisconsin in Washington County, son of the late Joseph and Theresa (O Donnell) Ruffing. In 1899 Raymond moved with his parents to the Hilbert and Stockbridge area. He attended the Robert Morris School. He married Theresa Weber on October 19, 1920 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Hilbert and they farmed together until retiring in 1960. She preceded him in death on January 10, 1985.
He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Stockbridge.
Survivors include five sons:
Edward Ruffing, Rural Hilbert;
Raymond Ruffing, Jr., Sherwood;
Charles (Alice) Ruffing, Chilton;
Richard (Julie) Ruffing, Rural New Holstein;
Robert Ruffing, Sherwood; two daughters:
Rose (Mel) Miller, Milwaukee;
Ellen (Tom) Maciulski, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma;
26 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren, a sister, Irene Winkler, Chetek, Wisconsin; a sister-in-law, Lorraine Humphrey, Scottsdale, Arizona.
He was also preceded in death by a daughter-in-law, Delphine Ruffing; a son-in-law, Robert Gember; a grandson, Garry Ruffing; three brothers: Joseph, Cyril and Levi Ruffing; and three sisters: Theresa Groy, Isabelle Campbell and Mae Grogan.
Funeral services will be at 5 p.m. on Monday, March 31, 1997 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Stockbridge with the Rev. Leander Nickel officiating. Spring burial will be in the parish cemetery. Friends may call at the Wieting Funeral Home in Chilton from 2 p.m. to 4: 15 p.m. on Monday when family prayers will be held.
