Culbertson people were greatly shocked by the sudden, unexpected death last Saturday afternoon of Keith A. Magee, well-known young man of this community, who passed away while undergoing a minor surgical operation in the McCook hospital.

Keith was the 30-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. J.S. Magee of Culbertson. He was married and the father of two daughters, JoAnn, 9, and Barbara, 6 years of age.

Keith had been suffering for some time with external abcesses, which his doctor held to be caused by glandular trouble. After receiving a course of treatments without satisfactory results, he went to the hospital last Saturday for an operation intended to give him permanent relief. He failed to regain consciousness after going under the anesthesia.

Keith Arthur Magee was born on March 24, 1916 at which time his parents resided on a farm south of Culbertson. He grew to manhood in this community and was united in marriage with Miss Iona Kemp of Trenton, Nebraska on November 18, 1936.

Following his marriage, Keith operated a farm south of Culbertson for a short time and then became a truck driver. He followed that line of work at Phillipsburg, Kansas; Denver, Colorado; and Los Angeles, California, as well as in Culbertson. While in California, he suffered a back injury that kept him laid up for several months and shortly after recovering he returned to Culbertson in July of last year. He had been employed here as a transport truck driver for the Kugler Oil Co. since last September.

Industrious, devoted to his family, quiet and unassuming, this young man was held in high regard by all who knew him. His untimely passing is a sad blow to his wife and children, his parents and other relatives. The profound sympathy of our community is extended to these bereaved ones.

Besides his wife and two young daughters and his parents, Keith is survived by five brothers, Homer L. of Cheyenne, Wyoming; George C. of Denver; Dale W. of Culbertson; Alden L. in the U.S. Coast Guard at Galveston, Texas; and Donald W. of Tacoma, Washington; also three sisters, Mrs. Opal Byer of Burlington, Colorado; Mrs. Margaret Bash of McCook, Nebraska; and Mrs. Madeline McDougal of Twin Falls, Idaho.

Funeral services in Zion Evangelical church at 2 o'clock Wednesday afternoon were conducted by the pastor, Rev. F.E. Schroeder. During the services, a quartet composed of Miss Jean Bauer, Mrs. George Hein, Alex Eisenach, and Everett Kern sang "Have Thine Own Way, Lord," and "Abide With Me," with Mrs. Dorsey Lehman as accompanist. Interment was in the Culbertson cemetery.

Out-of-town relatives coming here to attend the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. George Magee of Denver, Colorado; Mr. and Mrs. Donald Magee of Tacoma, Washington; Mr. and Mrs. Fred Byer of Burlington, Colorado; Mrs. O.O. McDougal of Twin Falls, Idaho; Mrs. Homer Magee of Cheyenne, Wyoming; Mrs. Margaret Bash of McCook, Nebraska; Mr. and Mrs. A.W. Kemp and son, Cloyd of Trenton, Nebraska; Mr. and Mrs. Adam Collins and daughters of McCook, Nebraska; Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Magee and daughter of Hardy, Nebraska; Mrs. Catherine Wehrman and two daughters of Nelson, Nebraska; Mrs. Agnes Hendricksen of Nelson, Nebraska; Mrs. Mabel Magee of Ruskin, Nebraska; Alvin Edeal of Lexington, Nebraska; Henry Edeal of Holdrege, Nebraska; J. Magee and son, Garth of Denver, Colorado; Mr. and Mrs. Tony Stark of Trenton, Nebraska; Mr. and Mrs. Theo. Stark of Trenton, Nebraska; and Howard Hoaglan of McCook, Nebraska. Two of Keith's brothers, Homer and Alden, were unable to be here.
