Funeral services for Jake S. Magee, a resident of the Culbertson community for 40 years, were conducted here at Zion Evangelical U.B. church by the pastor, Rev. M.G. Braun, on Friday afternoon of last week. Morning services were held at 10 o'clock that day at the Breland funeral chapel in McCook, with the Rev. George Peek officiating.

Mr. Magee, who had been in failing health for some time, died Tuesday January 4 at the Stratton hospital, where he had been a patient for two months.

Music during the church services was furnished by Doris Bauer of McCook, organist, and Paul Seick of McCook, soloist, who sang "The Old Rugged Cross" and "Abide With Me." Frank Hoyt, Calvin Saladen, Harold Steinke, George Sitzman Jr., Willard Rippen, and Charles Haller served as pallbearers. Interment was made in the Culbertson cemetery under direction of the Breland funeral chapel of McCook.

Jake S. Magee, the eldest of ten children of George and Agnes Magee, was born in Albany, Missouri on January 28, 1883. He died at the hospital in Stratton, Nebraska on January 4, 1955, having attained the age of 71 years, 11 months, and six days.

The family moved to Ruskin, Nebraska early in 1900. Mr. Magee was married to Eva Edeal in Miller, Nebraska on February 19, 1904. They were the parents of ten children, one of whom died in infancy. A son, Keith, died May 11, 1946 and another son, Alden, died in July of 1952. Mr. Magee was also preceded in death by his wife, who passed away at her home in Culbertson on June 3, 1946.

Mr. Magee, who came with his family to make their home on a farm six miles south of Culbertson in 1914, had been a resident of this community since that time.

Survivors include four sons, Homer L. of Cheyenne, Wyoming; George of Denver, Colorado; Dale W. of Loveland, Colorado; and Donald W. of Cheyenne, Wyoming; three daughters, Mrs. Opal Byer of Burlington, Colorado; Mrs. Margaret Carpenter of McCook, Nebraska; and Mrs. Madeline McDougal of Grand Island, Nebraska; 13 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; one brother, Floyd of Hardy, Nebraska; and five sisters, Mrs. Sue McCann of King City, Missouri; Mrs. Maude Falis of Glendale, California; Mrs. Kit Jasperson, Mrs. Agnes Herdrickson of Nelson, Nebraska; and Mrs. Esther Garlick of Colorado Springs, Colorado. Three brothers preceded him in death.
