David Byam, a well and favorably known resident of this city for almost half a century, passed away at 11:30 Tuesday night. He had been in poor health for the last three years but was confined to his bed for but two weeks preceding his death, which was caused by cancer of the liver. David Byam was born in Lee May 9, 1831. He married Miss Caroline Baker there 46 years ago. Two years after their marriage the couple came to this city. For many years Mr. Byam was a well known mason and contractor. He was an attendant at the Liberty Street M. E. Church. Surviving him are his wife and two brothers, Alpheus Byam of Red Oak, Ia, now visiting here, and Merritt Byam of this city.
