Susanna Seitz was born at New Lisbon, Ohio, June 3, 1842. In the fall of 1850 she came with her parents to Van Buren county, Iowa. On April 21, 1858, she was married to Lawrence Elsensohn, with whom she lived until his death in 1875. To this union were born eight children: Joseph, of Douds-Leando, Iowa; George, Fred, Lawrence Elsensohn and Mrs. Tena Beale, all of Pomeroy, Wash.; Mrs. Mary Wills, of Berkley, Cal., Lewis and Thomas Elsensohn, all of whom are living except Lewis and Thomas. July 11, 1876, she was married to John McMullen, with whom she lived until his death in 1900. To them were born three children: Mrs. Rosa Hewitt, of Leando, Iowa; Mrs. Susie Hewitt, of Curby, Wash., and John T. McMullen, whose last known address was Birmingham, Ala. She is also survived by her brother George Seitz, near Palouse City, Wash., and Mrs. Caroline Zachau, of Keosauqua. In 1870 she united with the Catholic church of which she remained a consistent member as long as she lived. March 28, 1908, she was called to Pomeroy, Wash., by the serious illness of her son, Lewis, and en route she received the sad news of his death on April 1. While visiting with her children at Pomeroy, and preparing to visit her daughters Mary and Susie, she was taken ill, and though the best physicians and nurses were provided she departed this life at the home of her son Fred, June 17, 1908, aged 66 years and 14 days. June 19, her son Fred returned with her body to be buried in Leando Cemetery Douds, Iowa.
