Wheeler Brooks, 50, a widely known farmer and trucker of this community, died at 11 pm Sunday at the Adams County Memorial Hospital. He resided in Berne R.R. 2. Death followed an illness of three weeks during which time Mr. Brooks had heavy surgery. His condition had been critical several days. He was a resident of Adams County for 17 years.

A native of Caylor, Va., Mr. Brooks was born January 12, 1917, a son of Wint and Rachel Yeary Brooks. He was married to Esther Jones August 22, 1937, at Monroe.

Surviving are the wife; the mother who lives at Harrogate, Tenn.; three daughters, Mrs. Orla (Mary Jane) Kihn, Berne R.R. 2; Mrs. John F. (Wanda) Brown, Decatur R.R. 2 and Mrs. Philip (Judie) Nussbaum, Berne; two sons, David Wheeler Brooks and Raymond Kinsey Brooks, both at home; eight grandchildren; six sisters, Mrs. Ella Cowan, Middleboro, Ky.; Mrs. Lula Mustard and Mrs. Bessie Kelley, both of Harrogate, Tenn.; Mrs. Cresful Miller, Hazard, Ky.; Mrs. Nanie Yoder, Wayne, Pa.; Mrs. Leona Campbell, Tipton, Indiana and three brothers, Herbert Brooks, Tipton; William E. Brooks, Summerville, S.C. and Bennie Brooks, Harrogate, Tenn.

Three sisters and a brother preceded in death.

The body is at the Yager Funeral Home where friends may call after 10 am Tuesday until 12 noon Wednesday when it will be taken to the Calvary Bible Church east of Berne to lie in state until 2 pm Wednesday when services will be held at the church. Rev. William P. Lehman, pastor of the church and Rev. Veryl Roth, pastor of the Evangelical Mennonite Church, will officiate. Burial will be in Springhill Cemetery northeast of Berne.
