ELLA BROOKS COWAN LIFORD
She was born in Ewing, Va., on Feb. 2, 1914, she was the daughter of the late Wint Brooks and Rachel Yeary Brooks. A retired nurse from Evans Hospital and Tazewell Hospital, she worked as a private nurse after retiring. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands, James Nepolian Cowan in 1978, and Wheeler Liford in 1985.
Ella Brooks Cowan Liford, 90, passed away Monday, Jan. 3, 2005, at Middlesboro Appalachian Regional Hospital.
Survivors include: Rosilie Cowan (Raymond) Walker, Drewie H. Cowan; grandchildren, Larry Walker of Middlesboro, Kathy Walker Fish of Aiken, S.C., and Jeff Walker of Lexington; eight great-grandchildren; brothers, William "Pete" Edward Brooks of Summerville, S.C. and Bennie (Lucille) Brooks of Harrogate, Tenn.; sisters, Crestful (Roy) Miller of Hayward, Ky., and Liona (Kyle) Campbell of Tipton, Ind.; nephews, Billy Brooks, Kimsey Brooks, Derek Brooks and Kenneth Brooks; nieces, Rachel Jane Bernard, Mary Jane Smith, Wanda Brown, Judie Nussbaum, Francis North, Renee Stedham, Sandy Campbell-Harron and Susie Yoder; and 27 great-nephews and nieces.

Funeral services will be held at 8 p.m. Wednesday at Shumate Funeral Home with the Rev. George Cole and the Rev. Boyd Gray officiating.

The family will receive from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at Shumate Funeral Home. .

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday in the Red Hill Cemetery.

NOTE: She was actually married to two gentleman who both descended from two different branches of the VanBibber family through the marriage of Peter Van Bebber and Ellinor Van Bibber.
