Lillian Mae Crandall was the fourteenth child of seventeen children. With the help of her mother, she learned to cook and sew, as well as garden and put up vegetables and fruit. As a young adult, She went to Wyoming Seminary and on to nursing school at Jefferson Medical Center. After a year of school, she met Dr Harry Franklin Crandall, they married June 1, 1923 in Philadelphia, PA. She left nursing school to raise a family and make a home for her husband. She worked behind the scenes to support her husband's career. She enjoyed music, sewing cloths for her daughter and cooking. Lillian, called "Lil" by her brother, had two boys listed in Find a Grave and a daughter who is still living. When raising her children, she provided opportunities for learning appreciation for the arts. She especially encouraged classical music. Her husband passed away in 1950, she continued to raise her daughter and send her to Cedar Crest College, where she obtained a degree in music.On September 1, 1956, she married W. Harold Crandall, no relation. They continued to live in Rhode Island, but did move to Florida and live there until her death. Her daughter said her mother wished her body donated to the for medical science.
