Carl was confirmed on April 5, 1912 by Pastor August Deichmann of St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church of Pigeon/Linkville, Huron County, Michigan.

Charles' obituary was published in the Thursday, May 6, 1971 issue of the Daily Tribune, Royal Oak, Oakland County, Michigan:

"Charles Gehrke, Sr.

Charles H. Gehrke, Sr., age 79, 1141 East Muir, Hazel Park, died Wednesday while visiting in Port Huron. He was retired from the Highland Park Plant of the Ford Motor Co., where he was a job setter.

Mr. Gehrke was born March 1, 1892, in Hawaii. His wife, Bessie, is deceased.

He was the father of 2 sons and 2 daughters,step-father of one; grandfather of 20; great-grandfather of five; and the brother of Mrs. Hedwig Brown, Hawaii.

The Rev. Leslie Beale, Hazel Park Lutheran Church, will conduct funeral services at 2 p.m., Saturday, at the Hopcroft Funeral Home, 23929 John R, Hazel Park. Burial will be in the White Chapel Memorial Cemetery."
