AGED RESIDENT OF AUBURN DIES AT 88 - Cancer and Complications Claim Life of Benjamin Bailey at Home on Ensley Ave. - Funeral on Wednesday
Benjamin Franklin Bailey, 88, a native of Spencer township and resident of the Auburn area his entire lifetime, died at 5:45 p.m. Sunday at his home at 1023 Ensley Avenue, Auburn, after an illness of several years.
Mr. Bailey died of cancer and complications and had been confined to his bed for the past seven months. He was a retired farmer and carpenter.
He was born in Spencer township on Dec. 15 (kind of blotty, but looks more like 15 than 16!), 1867, the son of the late Samuel and Barbara Beaty Bailey.
Mr. Bailey and Nettie J. Wise were married in Auburn Dec. 25, 1889 and she preceded him in death. On Oct. 29, 1938, he and Katherin M. Barrington were married in Auburn.
Surviving besides the widow are a daughter, Mrs. John Hursh of the Cemetery road, near Auburn; a son Ward E. Bailey of Tucson, Ariz.; a brother, John L. Bailey of Litchfield, Mich.; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Three brothers, a sister and five half-sisters preceded him in death.
The body was removed to the Gerig funeral home in Auburn where friends may call after 7 p.m. tonight. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Missionary church in Auburn with the Rev. John Wine of the Nazarene church in Auburn officiating. The pastor of the Missionary church, the Rev. Harlan J. Wright, is recovering from an operation. Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery, near Auburn
