AUBURN RESIDENT IS DEAD AT AGE OF 77
William E. Bailey Passes Away at his Home on South Wayne Street After Two Strokes of Apoplexy
William E. Bailey passed away at his home at 1620 South Wayne street in Auburn Thursday morning at 9:35 at the age of nearly 78 years. He would have been 78 if he had lived until next March 2. Mr. Bailey had been in poor health for several years and had been bedfast since a stroke of apoplexy on Feb. 11. He suffered another stroke Feb 23 and failed rapidly until his death. The deceased was born in Jackson township March 2, 1865. On Sept 18, 1888 he was united in marriage with Miss Lena Sodtman and she survives. Mr. and Mrs. Bailey spent all but five years of their married life in Auburn. He was a farmer and later was employed by the Auburn Automobile Co. In recent years he had retired. Survivors in addition to the widow include one son, William Arthur Bailey of Minneapolis, Minn.; one daughter, Mrs. Jesse Moody of Portland, Ore.; four brothers, Benjamin F. Bailey of Garrett, John of Litchfield, Mich.; Milton of Aberdeen, SD and Charles Curtis of Scottsville, Ark.; two half sisters, Mrs. Debbie Husselman of Auburn and Mrs. Elizabeth Armstrong of Corunna; eleven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Mr. Bailey was a member of the First Church of God at the corner of Jackson and Tenth streets. Funeral services will not be held until Sunday afternoon so that Arthur Bailey, Jr., a grandson who is in training in the armed forces at Memphis, Tenn., may attend.
