Mrs. Edna Nuckles Childress, age 89, of Council, Virginia, passed away Wednesday (June 10, 2015) in a Lebanon, Virginia nursing facility. Born February 2, 1926 in Deskins, Virginia, she was a daughter of the late George Walden and Cora Elizabeth McFadden Nuckles. A lifelong resident of the area, she was of the Freewill Baptist faith. She had formerly been employed as a cook at Council Elementary School and was known throughout the area for her homemade meals.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Herbert Childress, six sisters, Gladys Hess, Marie Nuckles, Ruby Johnson, Fannie Fletcher, Ocie Nuckles, and Vernie Nuckles, and six brothers, Dewey Nuckles, Howard Nuckles, Edward Nuckles, Marvin Nuckles, Ellis Nuckles, and infant, Marshall Nuckles.
Survivors include one brother, Arthur Nuckles of Davenport; three sisters, Ada Farmer and husband, Brady of Council, Juanita Farmer of Fletchers Ridge, and Alice Farmer and husband, Leonard of Honaker; many nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 AM Sunday in the Honaker Funeral Home Chapel, Honaker, Virginia with Rev. Carl Burmeier and Rev. Kenneth Johnson officiating. Interment will follow in the Nuckles Cemetery on Fletchers Ridge, Virginia.
Pallbearers will be Nolan Farmer Johnny Farmer, Ricky Nuckles, Mike Johnson, Jonathan Nuckles, Gary Austin, David Nuckles, and Allen Nuckles.
Honorary pallbearers will be Clinton Hess, Larry Nuckles, Delmer Hess, Darrell Lester, Brady Farmer, Raymond Farmer, Davis McGlothlin and any additional nephews.
Friends may call at the Honaker Funeral Home after 6:00 PM Saturday, where an evening service will be conducted at 7:00 PM with Rev. Troy Harris and Rev. Benny Harris officiating.
