Ruby Bruner Baxter, 89, of Fall Branch, departed this life Sunday at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center.

She had fought a courageous battle with cancer and had received the report that she was cancer free on March 26.

Ruby had the faith that God would heal her and he did, but it still was time for God to call her home.

She retired from Eastman, where she had 35 years of dedicated service.

Ruby was preceded in death by her husband: Denzil Baxter; her father: Thomas Bruner; her mother: Maggie Bruner; a brother: Robert Bruner; three sisters: Vesta Allen, Martha Wallace and Velma Fields; a half-sister: Leota Wacks; and a nephew: Jackie Fields.

Survivors include four sisters: Mary Goodman of Moorseburg, Bobbie Skelton of Church Hill, Lula Jones of Kingsport and Odetti Blank and husband, Blaine, of Maryland; a brother-in-law: Billy "Buck" Baxter and wife, Jean, of Fall Branch; and a sister-in-law: Hazel Pratt and husband, J.R., of Kingsport.

The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Homes, Fall Branch with a funeral services following at 7 p.m. with Brother Ed McLain and the Rev. Dennis H. Spears officiating.

Graveside services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday in Chimney Top Free Will Baptist Church Cemetery.

Family members will serve as pallbearers.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the charity of the donors choice.
