Alice was the third child of seven born to Andrew Jackson Coburn and Roseanne Marshall Coburn. Sometime in the late 1920's, Alice and her husband Miles moved to the Bakersfield area of California. In 1950, her brother Clarence Edgar Coburn left the hardship of the coal mines and moved his family near Alice in Kern County, California.
