Iva R. Werner, 96, of Greeley, CO passed away January 28, 2012 at Hospice of Northern Colorado. She was born November 28, 1915 in Beaver Creek, IL to Eli A. and Clara M. (Adcock) Zink. The family moved to Grover, CO in 1924. She graduated from Grover High School. On October 29, 1933 she married Alex Werner. He passed away in 1993.

She worked for the Federal Government for over 20 years – starting as a file Clerk for the Soil Conservation Service at Briggsdale, CO. She retired as the Chief of Administrative Services with the U.S. Public Health Service in Fort Collins, CO. After retirement she continued working of the family ranch northeast of Ault, CO.

Iva was an avid reader, enjoyed sewing, crafts, traveling and music. She played the Hawaiian and Spanish guitars, the Accordion, trombone and piano. She and her husband traveled extensively in the United States, Europe and Hawaii. After his death, she and her daughter-in-law, Rita took a cruise to Alaska.

She spent a short time at the Eden Valley Institute. Illness forced her to return to Greeley to be near her family. While at Eden Valley Iva met Janet and Frank Fournier, and learned of learned of a need for a school in Kibudula, Tanzania, Africa. She sent money for construction of the Iva Werner Seventh Day Adventist Primary School as well as funds to operate it for the first year. She also made many baby quilts that were sent to Africa.

Iva is survived by her son, Kelly Werner of Greeley; daughter-in-law, Rita of Pagosa Springs, CO; grandchildren, Melody Stout (Larry), Russ Werner (Cathy), Craig Werner (Jackie), Dallas Werner (Lisa), Lee Chavez, (Cathy), Tina Chavez-Merkel (Joe), Stephanie Werner and Michael Werner (Carol); nine great grandchildren; and one great-great granddaughter.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Alex; son, Walter; daughter, Ella Mae; parents; sisters, Julia Mae Boardman and Florence Philip; and brothers, Vernon Zink, Carson Zink and Paul Zink.

Services include: visitation from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, February 1, 2012 at Adamson Chapel. Funeral Service 2:00 p.m. Thursday at Adamson Chapel followed by interment at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
