NORTH TAZEWELL, Va. — Laura Gay Brooks, age 86, of the Mudfork community in North Tazewell, VA died Friday, March 28, 2014 at Heritage Hall Health Care in Tazewell, VA. Born November 29, 1927 in Russell County, VA, she was a daughter of the late Jonah and Nora Penion Ball.

She was a member of the Brown's Chapel United Methodist Church. Mrs. Brooks was a volunteer with the Retired Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) and A Child Shall Lead Them Food Pantry.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Dorothy Meadows and Anna McGuire; three brothers, Harold Ball, Garland Ball, and Herman Ball.

She is survived by her husband, Bernard E. Brooks; one daughter, Pamela G. Irvin and husband, Charles of North Tazewell, VA; one son, Jonah E. Brooks of North Tazewell, VA; two sisters, Lola McBride of North Tazewell, VA and Marie Boyd of Abingdon, VA; two grandchildren, Matthew C. Irvin and wife, Anna of Tazewell, VA and Teresa Henry and husband, Steve of Richmond, VA; great grandchild, Danielle Henry.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 PM Sunday, March 30, 2014 at Peery & St. Clair Funeral Home Chapel in Tazewell, VA with the Reverend Kenny Fields officiating. Burial will follow at Grandview Memory Gardens in Bluefield, VA. Pallbearers will be Justin Creasy, Tom Alley, Matthew Irvin, Curtis Neel, Shawn Jordon, and Gordon McBride.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home after 12:30 PM Sunday
