A native of Cross Anchor, he was the son of the late John Redman and Eula Parham Franklin.
He was a retired Deputy Sheriff with Spartanburg County Sheriffs Dept. after 15 years of service, a WW II 68th Signal Battalion United States Army veteran having served 38 months during the Philippine Liberation and a member of New Hope Baptist Church for 65 years where he served as Deacon and Adult SS Teacher. He was a graduate of Cross Anchor High School, former District 4 School Trustee in Woodruff, Commissioner of Cross Anchor Volunteer Fire Dept., delivered Meals on Wheels for the Enoree-Cross Anchor area, member of the Cross Anchor Masonic Lodge, Hejaz Shrine Club, owned and operated Spartan Office Machines for 5 years.
Mr. Franklin is survived by his wife, Cora Mae Smith Franklin; three daughters, Jane Franklin Jolley (Jack), Ann Franklin Casey (Jerry) and Maxine Franklin Craft (Jeff); one sister, Laura Humphries; six grandchildren, Brian Edward Casey, Bradley Wayne Casey, Judson Michael Craft, Jennifer Leigh Jolley, Matthew Thomas Craft and Joseph Franklin Craft; five great-grandchildren, Christopher Brian Casey, Jake Weston Casey, Claudia Paige Casey, Leigha McKinley Casey and Piper Annalee Casey. He is predeceased by a brother, John Franklin Jr. and sister, Eva Dell Layton.
Funeral services were on Saturday, March 15, 2014 at New Hope Baptist Church with Rev. Jimmy Farmer and Rev. Carrol Caldwell officiating.
Interment was in the church cemetery with Military Honors.
