Donald L. Bakke, 96, of Barrett, formerly of Elbow Lake, passed away on Saturday, February 1, 2014, at the Barrett Care Center in Barrett, MN.

Donald Lowell Bakke was born October 14, 1917 in Aastad Township (Otter Tail County), the son of Thorvald and Alma (Thompson) Bakke. Don was baptized and confirmed at Aastad Lutheran Church and attended School District #118 and Morris Agricultural School.

On December 21, 1936 he married Alice Nellien Johnson in Sisseton, South Dakota. They first resided in Wendell, Indiana. They returned and farmed mainly in the Wendell and Elbow Lake area. Donald especially liked to hunt (pheasants and deer), fish, travel and play cards. He took up flying in his early 50's and flew when time permitted. After retirement, they lived in Flagler Beach, Florida where they built a home and made many friends.

They moved back to Barrett, MN in 2008 and became a resident at the Barrett Care Center in 2009. He was a member of United Lutheran Church, Elbow Lake, MN.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Thorvald and Alma; his loving wife, Alice in 2012 and his son, Allen Bakke in 2013.

Survivors include a son, Ronald (Alice) of Kelso, WA; two daughters, Beverly Jost of Wahkon, MN and Diane (David) Odens of Elbow Lake; a sister in law, Betty Bakke of Fergus Falls; 15 grandchildren, Kevin, Keith, Brent, Lisa, Tim, Mark, Kathy, Elaine, Paul, Cheryl, Stephanie, Matt, Arvid, Wendy and Debbie along with great grandchildren and great great grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and a host of friends.

Visitation: 12:3- 2 P.M.,Saturday, March 29, at United Lutheran Church

Service: 2:00 P.M., Saturday, March 29, 2014 at United Lutheran Church, Elbow Lake, MN

Clergy: Pastor Chris Eldredge

Interment: Ness Cemetery, Elbow Lake, MN
