Warren Curtis Bakke, 84, of Fergus Falls, died Saturday, Jan. 16, 2010, at his home.

He was born Jan. 8, 1926, in Fergus Falls, the son of Thorvald and Alma (Thompson) Bakke. He grew up in Aastad Township and attended School District No. 118.
He served in the U.S. Merchant Marines from 1944 to 1946.

On May 7, 1971, he married Elizabeth DeWolf in St. Louis Park, Minn. For a time he was employed by North Star Dairy, delivering over the road for them. He then worked for John Deere in Bloomington, Minn., retiring in May of 1986 after 27 years of employment with them.

He was a member of Hope Lutheran Church in Bonita Springs, Fla., and the American Legion.

Warren was an avid traveler and camper, and he and Betty spent many years camping all over the United States. He also enjoyed swimming and snorkeling in Florida, riding his motorcycle and snowmobiling, and in later years, playing pool and cards at the Senior Citizen Center.

He loved all wildlife and animals of any kind, and especially his dogs, Smokey and Max. He also appreciated the beauty of the flower gardens and vegetable gardens he and Betty planted and kept up.

Survivors include his wife, Betty Bakke, of Fergus Falls; a daughter, Vicki Lynn Bakke of Keiser, Ore.; three grandchildren: Rena Roca of Keiser, Ore., and Marcie Hexum and Kris Bakke, both of Fergus Falls; two great-grandchildren, Ashley Rocholl and Alex Hexum; a brother, Donald (Alice) Bakke; several nieces and nephews; and his dogs, Smokey and Max.

Preceding him in death were a son, Wayne Curtis Bakke; a granddaughter, Kim Roca; a daughter-in-law, Nancy Bakke; his parents; a brother, Burnell Bakke; a sister, Avis Bach; and a sister-in-law, Ruth Bakke.

Memorials are preferred to the A.S.P.C.A., the Humane Society, or the Salvation Army.

Visitation: Thursday from 9 to 11 a.m. at the funeral home
