Alice Nellien Bakke, 92 of the Barrett Care Center and formerly of Elbow Lake died Friday, August 5, 2011 at the Barrett Care Center.

She was born July 30, 1919, in Stony Brook Township, Grant County, Minnesota the daughter of Hans M. and Turine "Tina" (Thompson) Johnson. Alice was baptized and confirmed at the Rock Prairie Lutheran Church. She attended rural school District #30.

On December 21, 1936 she married Donald "Don" Lowell Bakke in Sisseton, South Dakota and they have celebrated their 74th anniversary. The couple resided in Wendell, Indiana, rural Fergus Falls and then rural Elbow Lake where they worked together on their farm. After retirement, they lived in Flagler Beach, Florida where they built a home and made many friends.

She is a member of the United Lutheran Church of Elbow Lake where she was active in circle and ladies aid. Alice was also a fill in organist for the Community Memorial Church in Florida.

Her hobbies included reading, especially mysteries, playing organ and piano, gardening, traveling, collecting sea shells and crossword puzzles. It was her delight to entertain family with her wonderful baking and cooking.

Preceding her in death were her parents; a granddaughter, Connie May Bakke; two sisters and their spouses, Elizabeth (Joe) Haugen and Luella (Herb) Olson; a brother Herbert Johnson; a daughter-in-law, Sharon Bakke and a son-in-law, Eugene Jost.

Survivors include her husband, Donald of Barrett; four children, Ronald (Alice) of Kelso, Washington, Beverly Jost of Wahklon, Minnesota, Allen (his friend, Margaret Anderson) of rural Elbow Lake and Diane (David) Odens of Elbow Lake; 15 grandchildren, Kevin, Keith, Brent, Lisa, Tim, Mark, Kathy, Elaine, Paul, Cheryl, Stephanie, Matt, Arvid, Wendy and Debbie along with great grandchildren and great great grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Ethel Johnson, also numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends.

Visitation: Two hours prior to services at the church

Service: 2:00 p.m. Saturday, August 13, 2011 at the United Lutheran Church of Elbow Lake

Clergy: Pastor Robert Toso

Interment: Ness Cemetery of rural Elbow Lake
