Nels Peter Nilsen was born 23 February 1861 in Rana, Nordland, Norway, the 3rd son and 5th child of 7 born to Nils Frederick Olsen (1825-1882) and Pernille Pedersdtr Olsen (1823-1905). He was married to Anna Serina Anderson (1874-1937) on 6 April 1895 in Duluth, MN. They had 2 daughters and a son. He was a carpenter by trade. He died on 18 September 1922 in Minneapolis, MN at the age of 61. He was interred at Park Hill Cemetery.
