William C. "Bill" Elwood, 83 years, of Fremont, NE died Tuesday, January 21, 2014 at the A. J. Merrick Manor in Fremont.

Bill was born November 22, 1930 in Creighton, NE to Lyman and Velzo(Clifton)Elwood. He grew up at Creighton and was a 1947 graduate of Creighton High School. He attended Wayne State College at Wayne, NE for 1 year and then served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War from Feb. 1, 1951 to Nov. 25, 1952. He returned to Creighton and took over the family farming operation for 1 1/2 years, then returned to Wayne State College and graduated in 1956 with a degree in education and then earned 2 Master's Degree in Educational Psychology. He taught at Primghar, IA for 1 year, then at Akron, IA for 7 years, where he taught English and then was the guidance director and later became the Jr.-Sr. High School Principal. He moved to Fremont in 1964 and was a counselor and guidance director at the Fremont High School.

Bill married Millie J. Middle on June 21, 1955 in Rock Valley, Iowa. She died January 23, 1996. He later married Linda K. Joslin on July 12, 1997 in Fremont, NE.

Bill previously attended First Baptist Church in Fremont, Fremont Alliance Church and the Fremont Berean Bible Church, where he served on various committees and teaching positions. He was a former member of the V.F.W. Post at Creighton, NE and a current member of the American Legion Post at Lincoln,NE. Bill was incredibly well read and education was his life. He enjoyed crossword puzzles, reading the Bible and was an avid fisherman. He also coached baseball.

He is survived by his wife, Linda; sons & daughter-in-law, Mark & Karen Elwood of Auxvasse, MO, Brian & Roxie Elwood of Lincoln, Eric Elwood of Fremont and David Joslin of Oklahoma City, OK; daughters & sons-in-law, Lori & Robert Misfeldt of Fremont, Amy & Steve Frank of Lincoln, Pamela Fleming of Texarkana, TX and April & husband, Greg Lorett of Joplin, MO; daughter-in-law, Sharlene Elwood of Arlington, NE; 27 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; 1st wife, Millie; daughter, Julie Reddish; brother, Donald Elwood; an infant sister, Diane; and sister, Helen Allan.

Funeral service will be held at 10 AM, on Saturday, January 25, 2014 at the Church of the Nazarene in Fremont. The Rev. Tom Nevius will officiate. Visitation on Friday from 4 PM to 8 PM with the family receiving friends on Friday from 6 PM to 8 PM all at Moser Memorial Chapel in Fremont. Visitation on Saturday at church 1hr prior to service. Burial will be at Memorial Cemetery in Fremont. Military honors will be conducted by the Fremont Honor Guard of V.F.W. Post #854 and American Legion Post #20. Memorials may be directed to Campus Crusaders For Christ.
