Dr. Fred Adams, 92, of Auburn passed away due to pulmonary fibrosis. He grew up on a farm in Marion, Louisiana, and worked his way through LSU and earned his BS in 1943. He entered the Army Field Artillary as a 2nd Lieutenant. Spent 3 ½ years in the military. 18 months in the South Pacific and 7 months in occupation of Japan. He came back home, returned to LSU and completed his Masters degree. Attended University of California and obtained his PHD in soil science. Dr. Adams went to Beirut, Lebanon in 1952 as a soil scientist, to help set up School of Agriculture at the American University of Beirut. Spent 3 years in Beirut, came to Auburn University as a soil scientist in 1955. He retired in 1985. He was awarded professor Emeritus January 1, 1985. Dr. Adams was an avid square dancer for many years, enjoyed his pecan grove and everything associated with it. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joshua and Mary Adams, 3 brothers, Pat, Jim & George Adams, 2 sisters, Marie Reese and Opal Collins, a daughter, Janet Kathleen Adams and his son Dr. James Frederick Adams. Survived by his wife of 70 years, Catherine McConnell Adams, a daughter Marilyn Adams Blanton (Bill), grand-daughters Patricia Stanford DiMatteo (Tom), Karen Stanfield Metcalf (Dave) , Sarah Ann Adams and grandson David Stanfield.
